How Is It With Your Soul?
Just before leaving for church on Easter Sunday morning, I grabbed my dress shoes from the closet. Looking them over to see how scuffed up they were, I noticed that there was a stone wedged in the sole of one of my shoes.
Carefully working to remove this stone in my sole, a not so humorous pun came to mind. I began to think about how easily a “stone” can get wedged in our own “soul” as we take steps in our faith journey. It may have been a painful incident from childhood, something said months ago, or even an unpleasant exchange days ago.
When the stone was finally dislodged, I held it in my hand to examine it. Waves of gratitude washed over me as I recalled the significance of this Easter day. The stone that seemed to mark a final resting place was divinely removed to reveal the miracle of the Resurrection. The stone was not permanent!
Think about that for a moment. If a “stone” has penetrated your soul and you think “I am just going to have to live with this,” hear the good news! Easter reminds us that there is no “thing” embedded so deeply in our soul that God cannot remove it. If He can roll the stone away that sealed the entrance of Jesus’ tomb, He can certainly remove that which appears wedged in your own soul.
So, how is it with your soul? Have careless words, hurtful actions, pride, regret, offenses, or even anger gotten wedged in your soul? You don’t have to live with it. Why not take time right now and in faith, ask God to remove it?
King David said, “For God alone my soul waits in silence; From Him comes my salvation.” “He refreshes and restores my soul” (Psalm 62:1, Psalm 23:3 AMP). God is, “breathing room for my soul… I’m set for life” [MSG]. “So I say to my soul, “Don’t be discouraged, Don’t be disturbed, for I know My God will break through for me.” Then I’ll have plenty of reasons to praise him all over again. Yes, living before his face is my saving grace”(Psalm 42:11 PT). Thanks be to God.
